THE PLUMMET — our new Shakespeare study group launches January 6
We’re pleased to announce the launch of THE PLUMMET, a new ongoing Shakespeare study group from Queen Charlotte’s Villeins.
THE PLUMMET is a two-hour weekly gathering on Zoom, ideal for actors, directors, teachers, and Shakespeare lovers interested in sustained, rigorous engagement with the plays. The emphasis is serious study without (too much) pretension — conversation-driven, performance-focused, and open to a wide range of experience levels.
The Villeins began, during the Pandemic, by following this exact same format, and we’re excited to be getting back to our roots.
We begin on Tuesday, January 6, 6:30–8:30 PM Eastern, with Richard II. From there, we expect to make our way — in time — through the plays of the Henriad, while remaining open to exploring other works in between as interest and curiosity guide us. The pace is unhurried and participant-responsive. This is not a one-and-done course. It is a sustained practice.
Each play is first read in full, then explored scene by scene and line by line, with attention to language, rhetoric, structure, characters, and the realities of performance. Discussion is moderated but collaborative, with space for questions, discoveries, disagreement, and curiosity.
Membership is $50 per year, with 40 sessions guaranteed annually. Prospective members may also audit a session before committing.
Full details and the application are available here!
We’re looking forward to beginning this work and to the conversations ahead.
